WARNING: A COMPLAINT

I made dinner tonight for family. It's soup. It is mostly vegan. They cooked chicken to go with it. Why do I feel so hurt?

The Beginning of my Ramblings

I have decided to start keeping a blog on my journey with food. I feel as if food and I have always had a strange relationship. Recently I have begun to make some incredibly wonderful changes with our relationship. It's been fascinating, challenging and exciting to try new recipes, go against the grain and find my own groove with food.

I have created this blog to record my random ramblings. I need a place to vent frustrations, enjoy my successes, and complain my complaints.

I want to start by sharing the big changes I've made. For years I have talked about how I could "almost" be a vegetarian. In September 2015 I decided to try it. I actually went a step further and changed my diet to vegan, including a reduced use of oil. I did this strict diet for about a week and half and loved it. I lost weight, had more energy and felt joy in life. But I found myself craving chocolate. That's when I found out that there are vegan desserts. This was a problem. With the find of desserts I started eating sugars again. And it quickly got out of control.

Since then I have continued to eat mostly vegetarian. I haven't had any meat, but I have enjoyed things like gravy at Thanksgiving. And I'm way ok with this change. At home I'm cooking mostly vegan. We don't use very many eggs or dairy, but there are a few things I still use them for. I'm working at eating even more vegan than I currently am. I don't eat eggs unless I bake cookies and I don't drink milk (unless it's in ice cream).

Once again the challenge I'm facing is the sugars. I know the benefits of not eating sugars. I have felt my body change as I have significantly decreased the amount of sugar that I eat. That's my new goal. To only eat treats once a week. We go to dinner every Sunday with our families and I think that would be a good day for treats.

The biggest problem with limiting treats is that so much of food is social. We have a girls night to get a treat. We are hoping to bond as a presidency....over dessert. So, how do you conquer something that is so challenging in life when it's all around you?

I suppose that the way you conquer life in general is by relying on the Atonement. Perhaps this is my biggest challenge. Perhaps I'm trying to do it all on my own, but need to be better at relying on my Savior for help. So, my next question is, how do you fully rely on the Atonement? How do you completely turn your life to the Lord?
